Abstract:
Public spaces in high-density urban villages often suffer from "temporal conflicts"—the same space is used by different groups for various activities in the morning, noon, and evening. Conflicts arise from fixed spatial settings amid fluid demands. Taking the Huli Community in Xiamen as a case study, this paper reveals the daily logic of such conflicts through behavioral temporal observations, and proposes a design strategy called "Community Mobile Atlas": a lightweight, transformable, and participatory modular device system. Through folding, flipping, and assembling, the same space can switch among three modes: seating, vending, and circulation. The paper elaborates on the prototype design, transformation mechanism, and replicable logic of the device, and discusses the transfer path of this methodology from a single case to general application within the context of micro-renewal. The study shows that the core of micro-renewal lies not in one-off spatial beautification, but in empowering spaces with the ability to continuously respond to changes.
