Abstract:
With the increasing global application of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), its safety evaluation has garnered significant attention from governments and research institutions worldwide. Organoid technology, as an emerging approach that mimics the microenvironment of human organs, offers new insights and methodologies for toxicity evaluation of TCM. This study employed organoid-on-a-chip technology to simulate the physiological and pathological states of multiple human organs, systematically assessing the toxic responses of several major TCM components. By replicating the microenvironments of vital organs such as the liver, kidneys, and heart, the study observed the effects of different components within these microenvironments and unveiled their potential toxicological mechanisms. The results indicate that organoid technology can effectively identify the cytotoxicity and tissue-specific reactions of TCM components, providing more precise and scientific data to support the safety evaluation of TCM. Additionally, organoid technology demonstrates unique advantages in predicting the chronic toxicity and long-term effects of TCM. The findings of this study not only contribute to enhancing the scientific accuracy of TCM safety evaluations but also open new avenues for the application of organoid technology in new drug development. This abstract is clearly structured, organized into four sections: research background, research methods, research results, and research significance, aiming to explicitly demonstrate the application value of organoid technology in toxicity evaluation of TCM.
