Abstract:
Drawing on the personal letters (Qiaopi) of two overseas Chinese sisters in mid-20th century Quanzhou, this study employs a micro-historical approach to examine how women sustained emotional bonds and provided material support across the diaspora. It further explores their family's transition from private artisans to cooperative members, highlighting their adaptation to China's socialist transformation. The findings affirm Qiaopi as a key site of female agency, where women actively negotiated transnational networks and local societal changes, offering new insights into Qiaoxiang social history and gender studies.
